Rehoboth Properties Limited has rejected recent media reports alleging power theft at its social housing estate in Kweiman, Accra, describing the claims as misleading and damaging to its reputation.

In a statement issued by the company, management said the allegations of illegal electricity connections involving hundreds of homes at the estate had been exaggerated and failed to consider critical facts, including the status of many of the properties.

The company clarified that it does not directly oversee electrical works or installations for homes under construction, as these are handled by third-party contractors or homeowners. A block factory mentioned in some reports, Rehoboth noted, is owned by an independent vendor who applied for electricity connection separately and is not affiliated with the company’s operations.

Rehoboth also pointed out that out of the approximately 400 units mentioned in reports, about 150 are still under construction and not connected to any power source. Many of the completed homes, the company said, remain unoccupied, particularly by clients based abroad, making the scale of alleged illegal connections “statistically improbable.”

The company said it had submitted applications and made payments for meters for homes in the estate as far back as 2023, but ECG had only installed a portion due to what it called nationwide supply shortages. Rehoboth indicated it formally petitioned ECG and the Ministry of Energy in April 2023 to address the situation, but no resolution was reached.

“Connections and meter installations were carried out by ECG personnel,” the company emphasised, adding that it has neither the mandate nor the technical capacity to interfere in such work. The statement further explained that ECG has been collecting estimated payments from residents pending full meter installation, a practice said to be common under current circumstances.

Electricity has since been restored to the estate, and Rehoboth says it is cooperating with ECG to resolve outstanding issues.

The company urged media outlets to verify information before publication and warned that it may pursue legal action against further false or defamatory reports.

Rehoboth Properties Limited is one of several developers operating in the Greater Accra Region, offering homes marketed as affordable housing options for Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
