Recreation Minister Kofi Adams backs ‘Walk With Lexis’ set for December 6

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has endorsed the 6th December edition of Walk With Lexis, urging Ghanaians to embrace recreation as part of healthier living.

Walk With Lexis, the health awareness fitness initiative founded by Louis Sakyiamah (Lexis Bill), host of Drive Time on Joy 99.7 FM, returned on Saturday 27 September 2025 after a hiatus.

Organisers expect hundreds of participants for the December event, which they describe as a bigger edition of previous walks.

The walk will start at the Ayi Mensah Police Station and end at the Lodge Tavern opposite the Peduase Lodge, with stops for aerobics sessions and health education.

Speaking on the significance of recreational activity, the Minister urged people to take part in it.

“We are taking recreation to a higher level and we are collaborating with the greatest; the greatest walk that is yet to happen,” he said, adding that he will join the exercise.

Launched in 2016, Walk With Lexis promotes active living through Aburi Mountain walks, health talks, screenings, aerobics and networking. The event has attracted prominent figures over the years, including former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, former Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, satirist Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), CEOs, Heads of Diplomatic Missions and celebrities.

In 2018, Walk With Lexis was adjudged Best CSR Event at the Ghana Event Awards, ahead of other major community and health initiatives. It has also earned several nominations in the CSR category for excellence in community service and event management.

According to Lexis Bill, this edition follows the usual model and reflects his long running advocacy for health and wellness, which has influenced thousands locally and internationally.

Recreation Minister Kofi Adams backs ‘Walk With Lexis’ set for December 6

At the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) Technical Session held in Durban a few months ago, he pushed for recreation to be recognised as a core pillar of public health policy. In a presentation titled “Recreation: Powering Play”, he argued that recreation should be seen as a vital tool for preventive healthcare.

He called on African governments to integrate recreation into national policy with budget support across the health, youth and sports, and education ministries to drive sustainable recreational programmes.

“Recreation is not just pastime, it is public health, social cohesion, mental wellness, youth engagement, and economic innovation rolled into one,” he emphasised.

Lexis Bill is the host of Drive Time on your Super Station Joy 99.7 FM.
