Rashid Tanko pledges continued support to Omane Boamah’s family

The Deputy Director of Elections and Information Technology for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has said the party will continue to support the family of the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, following his death in last week’s military helicopter crash.

Speaking to JoyNews at the state funeral ceremony for the late minister and six others who perished in the crash, Mr. Tanko urged the bereaved family to remain strong despite the enormity of their loss.

“The family should take heart. They have lost a son, but we are there to represent them, and they still have other sons they can rely on. We will continue to give them the shoulder they need as a family; we are there for them. We will carry on with whatever Dr Omane started and see it through to a logical conclusion. We will continue his work, and we are still here for the family,” he said.

He acknowledged that the road ahead would be difficult but assured the family that the NDC would continue to provide the same care and commitment Dr. Omane gave them.

“Naturally, it’s not going to be easy for them, but we will continue to do whatever Omane was doing for them as their son. The children still have fathers—many fathers in the party—to give them the shoulder they need to continue their lives,” he said.

The tragedy also claimed the lives of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate and Deputy Director-General for NADMO, Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who died were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
