Rasheed Saminu to race against Kishane Thompson, Akani Simbine at Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix

Ghana’s 100m record holder, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will line up against the world’s fastest man of 2025, Kishane Thompson, and South African sprint icon Akani Simbine at the István Gyulai Memorial meet on Tuesday 12 August in Budapest, Hungary.

It will be Saminu’s first competition on the European circuit, having ended his collegiate season with the NCAA championships back in June.

The 27-year old has had a breakout season in 2025, where he has broken the national record twice, first with a 9.86s clocking at the of May, before lowering his own record to 9.84s seven weeks later.

The former University of Ghana student, whose 9.84s time is the 7th fastest in the world this year, is now expected to test his mettle against some of the world’s fastest, not least, Thompson, who ran a huge personal best of 9.75s in June to claim the Jamaican National Championships.
