Prudential Bank has launched its breast cancer screening campaign in Takoradi, marking the first of five screening exercises scheduled across the country this month.
Over 300 women took part in the event, held at the Church of Pentecost premises at Kwesimintsim, aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer and promoting early detection.
Head of Brand at Prudential Bank, Jamila Disu, said the screening formed part of the bank’s annual initiative to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage regular checks.
“Early detection is key to saving lives, and this exercise is our way of supporting that effort,” she said.
Ms Disu noted that similar screening exercises would be conducted in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Tamale, providing essential health services to communities nationwide.
“Last year, the bank screened over 1,200 individuals, including 327 in Tamale alone. This year, our target is to exceed that number. The beauty of the initiative is that we are returning to the same centres visited last year, giving previous beneficiaries the opportunity to be re-screened,” she added.
The initiative forms part of Prudential Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its customers and the communities it serves.
Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide, with over 2.3 million new cases diagnosed globally each year. Although men are also at risk, the disease is far more prevalent among women. Early detection and treatment significantly improve outcomes and survival rates.
In Ghana, breast cancer continues to be a major public health concern, with many cases diagnosed at advanced stages, underscoring the need for increased awareness and regular screening.
