Promote GPL like Dr. Omane Boamah did on social media – Eric Alagidede to politicians

General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Eric Alagidede, has called on politicians to draw inspiration from the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah’s dedication to football by supporting and promoting the local game, particularly through social media platforms.

Dr. Omane Boamah, who tragically lost his life alongside Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Mohammed and six others in a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, was widely known for his deep-rooted love for the sport.

A devoted Asante Kotoko fan, Dr. Boamah also served as Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and played a key role as the General Coordinator for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking on Luv FM, Alagidede reflected on Dr. Boamah’s significant contributions to Ghana football and his consistent efforts to spotlight the Ghana Premier League on his personal platforms.

“These are the calibre of leaders we want to see. You don’t just support a club and say you’re a club supporter.

“The fact that Dr Omane Boamah had a lot of followers on his X handle, on his Facebook account and Instagram, and he goes to tweet about football club Kumasi Asante Kotoko, it means a lot because you will never know, there are people on his timeline who may not be interested in football, they are following him for the sake of politics, but they may develop some love for the club that he supports.

He urged today’s political leaders to follow suit by using their influence and social media presence to push the growth and visibility of the local game.

“And it is something I like from the current Asante Regional Minister, I think he is a staunch Kotoko fan, same as the KMA boss.

“I plead with the rest of our politicians to get involved in how we promote our games in the course of the week, when we are about to start a new season.

“You can easily come, even if you are not coming to the stadium, promote the game on your handle.

“If you are a minister, you have about 5,000 followers, and you tweet about Hearts of Oak or Kumasi Asante Kotoko, or even about Great Olympics, you may not know the impact that will have on the said game over the weekend,” he said.
