The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has appointed Professor Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah as Dean, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s storied history.

He takes over from Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, whose two-term tenure was distinguished by a legacy of innovation, academic expansion, and institutional consolidation.

For the first time in the School’s history, the deanship has been conferred upon a faculty member from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, a historic feat that positions Professor Tweneboah-Koduah as a trailblazer.

His elevation is being lauded as both a personal achievement and a symbolic reflection of the growing prominence of marketing as a discipline within the university and across Ghana’s socio-economic and academic terrain.

A proud alumnus of UGBS, Professor Tweneboah-Koduah holds a BSc in Administration and an MPhil in Marketing from the School. He later obtained a PhD from London Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. With over 18 years of distinguished service, he has become an influential academic, administrator, and mentor.

As a twice-appointed Head of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, his leadership was pivotal in enhancing the department’s research output, academic standing, and relevance. Under his stewardship, the department evolved into a hub of innovation, experiential learning, and community engagement.

His deanship signifies not only the department’s ascent within UGBS but also underscores the rising strategic importance of marketing in institutional governance and business leadership.

Beyond departmental boundaries, Professor Tweneboah-Koduah has served in a number of cross-cutting strategic roles at the University of Ghana.

He has chaired major committees such as the Safety and Security Services Committee and the Marketing and Communications Committee. As programme coordinator for flagship courses like the MA in Marketing Strategy, Executive MBA, and Weekend MBA Marketing, he championed reforms that led to increased enrolment, curriculum modernisation, and stronger industry collaboration.

A prolific academic, Professor Tweneboah-Koduah is internationally recognised for his work in social marketing and behaviour change. With over 50 peer-reviewed publications, his research has addressed critical issues in public policy, health promotion, non-profit marketing, and entrepreneurship.

His work has appeared in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Social Marketing, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, and the International Journal of Bank Marketing.

At the heart of his academic and administrative journey lies a deeply rooted moral and spiritual compass. A devoted Elder of the Church of Pentecost and worshipper at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Atomic Accra, Professor Tweneboah-Koduah brings a leadership style infused with faith, humility, and service. His broader societal engagements include membership on the Council of the Bible Society of Ghana and participation on several educational and corporate boards.

As the nation continues to embrace technological advancements and global competitiveness, Professor Tweneboah-Koduah’s leadership offers timely expertise aligned with the strategic vision of the Vice-Chancellor.

In Professor Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah, UGBS has found a leader whose ethos is defined by scholarship, service, and spiritual integrity, poised to guide the School into a new era of excellence, inclusivity, and visionary growth, while building upon the formidable foundation laid by his predecessor.
