Prime Insight

Legal discussions are set to take centre stage this morning as Joy Prime’s Prime Insight gathers key figures to dissect two of Ghana’s most critical governance issues: the controversial arrest of lawyer Martin Kpebu and the numerous legal challenges filed against the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensah and her two deputies.

The two-hour current affairs programme, hosted by Blessed Sogah, is scheduled to air today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

Prime Insight: OSP vs. Kpebu and petitions to remove EC boss to dominate discussions this Saturday

High-Stakes Panel Discussion

The programme boasts a high-profile panel with direct insight into the ongoing controversies:

  • Marcellinus Biah: Lawyer for Martin Kpebu, who will provide first-hand accounts and legal perspective on his client’s arrest, detention, and the bail process by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
  • Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah: MP for Manhyia South, offering the legislative and political perspective on the debate surrounding the OSP’s conduct and calls for the agency’s restructuring or “scrapping”.
  • Elikem Kotoko: Deputy CEO of the Forestry Commission, likely to provide governance and executive input on the OSP’s operational mandate.
  • Janet Nabla: Founder of the People’s National Party, who will provide a non-partisan view on the impact of the OSP saga on public trust and democratic institutions.

The Two Dominant Topics

1. OSP vs Martin Kpebu: The Arrest and Calls for Scrapping

The panel will delve into the legal fracas involving the OSP and lawyer Martin Kpebu, following his recent arrest on charges of obstruction. Discussions are expected to cover:

  • The legality of the OSP’s actions, including the specific charges, the bail conditions (demanding proof of landed property), and the confusion surrounding his brief disappearance after meeting those conditions.
  • The wider public and political sentiment is pushing for a review or complete “Scrapping of the OSP” due to perceived overreach or lack of transparency.

2. Petitions Against EC Chairperson and Deputies

The second major topic addresses the numerous legal challenges targeting the leadership of the Electoral Commission.

The show will examine the seven petitions filed against Jean Mensa and her two deputies, analysing the grounds for their removal and the potential impact of these legal proceedings on Ghana’s electoral integrity and preparations for future elections.

The discussion promises to be an insightful and potentially explosive examination of accountability, judicial review, and the checks and balances within Ghana’s governance structure.

Prime Insight is designed as a fresh space for incisive, solutions-driven dialogue on governance, politics, and social issues.

The programme airs every Saturday morning on Joy Prime (DStv 281, GOtv 124, and Free-to-Air channel 102), with live engagement on @JoyPrimeTV across social media.
