President’s New Year message lacked hope and sincerity – NPP’s Senyo Amekplenu

A member of the Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Senyo Amekplenu, has criticised President John Mahama’s New Year message, describing it as lacking sincerity, hope, and assurance for Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, January 2, Mr Amekplenu said the President’s address left him deeply disappointed, particularly as a young Ghanaian.

“On the issue of the New Year message, in fact, I wept yesterday in the evening after listening to the President.

“I wept as a young person in this country. I wept in the sense that I felt that there was no sincerity and hope in the President’s message,” he said.

According to him, the address failed to offer clear reassurance to citizens and relied heavily on what he described as empty claims of achievement.

“There was no assurance in the President’s message. They are good at mentioning, we’ve reduced this, we’ve reduced that, we’ve done this. It’s just shambolic and lacks hope,” Mr Amekplenu stated.

He further accused the President of engaging in what he termed “pseudologia fantastica”, arguing that governance should not be built on deception or selective truth-telling.

“I keep repeating that governance cannot be resorted to pseudologia fantastica, where you want to choose where to lie. Governance cannot resort to fantasies and deceptions,” he said.

Mr Amekplenu also rejected the President’s “reset” narrative, describing it as misleading and dishonest.

“In it, he said that whether you voted for the NDC, whether you voted for me or not, we are all Ghanaians. The reset is for all of us.

“I disagree with the President, because I think that this whole mantra of reset is a scam or a fraud business,” he argued.

He questioned the inclusiveness of the President’s message, insisting that the reset agenda does not reflect the lived realities of many Ghanaians.

“You cannot say that you are resetting this country and be doing the usual rhetoric that we know. I feel that the entire so-called reset mantra is a scam and a fraud, in the sense that if the President claims that the reset is for all of us, where do other members of the Ghanaians fall?” he added.
