President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in Ghana Publishing Company Limited’s (GPCL) ambition to become one of the country’s leading printing brands, saying the state-owned firm is steadily repositioning itself as a competitive player in the wider industry.
The President made the remarks during an interaction with the Board and Management of GPCL, where he assessed the company’s progress and future direction.
“I’m very happy to note that you are doing what it takes to bring Ghana Publishing up as the leading printing establishment in Ghana, not only public, but even a leading brand in the whole printing industry,” he said.
Mahama noted that GPCL’s current trajectory reflects a shift from its traditional role as a government utility to a commercially viable enterprise capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with private sector firms.
He said the transformation is important at a time when the government is pushing for reforms to strengthen state-owned enterprises and reduce overreliance on public funds.
According to the President, GPCL’s progress demonstrates how strategic leadership, innovation and operational discipline can reposition public institutions for long-term sustainability.
His comments follow earlier remarks in which he praised the company for what he described as a remarkable turnaround, after years of struggling with weak branding and low public confidence.
