The 2001 year group of Presbyterian Senior High School, Legon (PRESEC-Legon) has launched an appeal for support to construct staff accommodation on campus.

The initiative forms part of the group’s legacy project to mark its 25th anniversary, which coincides with the school’s 88th anniversary celebration.

The project, dubbed the Ɔdadeɛ 2001 Legacy Project, involves the construction of a four-unit, two-bedroom staff apartment aimed at expanding residential accommodation for teachers at the school.

The proposed facility will be located at the Ɔdadeɛ 2001 Square construction site on the PRESEC-Legon campus.

According to the organisers, the project is intended to help address the growing accommodation gap for teaching staff despite the school’s large student population.

PRESEC-Legon currently houses about 3,290 boarding students, yet only 59 teachers reside on campus, a situation the group believes poses challenges for effective supervision, academic mentoring and pastoral care.

The alumni group explained that limited residential facilities for teachers also affects efforts to maintain the recommended teacher–student ratio in Ghana, which stands at 1:40.

The 2001 year group hopes the project will enable the school to attract and retain more resident teachers while improving the availability of staff beyond classroom hours.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen student discipline and pastoral care while improving emergency response within the boarding school environment.

In addition, the alumni believe increased teacher presence on campus will contribute to student safety and welfare while boosting staff morale and retention.

The group noted that the project is designed not only to address an immediate infrastructure need but also to serve as a lasting contribution to the development of the institution and future generations of students.

Funding for the project is being mobilised through a sod-cutting and fundraising campaign targeting the global executive of the Odadeɛ fraternity, various PRESEC year groups, corporate organisations, old students and other supporters of the school.
