From over 100 schools at the zonal level to just two finalists, the 2025 edition of the Luv FM High Schools Debate has come to a thrilling end, crowning Prempeh College as champions after a gripping grand finale that tested wit, logic, and public speaking prowess.
Prempeh College started the journey from the zonal level, narrowing down from preliminaries of 20 schools to the round of 16, then quarter-finals of 8 schools, semi-finals of 4 schools and finally, the much-anticipated grand finale.

Before the ultimate contest, the battle for third place kicked off between KNUST Senior High and St. Louis Senior High debating the motion: “The Mineral Wealth of Ghana has been more of a Curse than a Blessing.”
KNUST SHS, arguing for the motion, delivered a strong performance, beating St. Louis SHS by a score of 250 to 229, a unanimous decision by the judges.
Then came the main event: a powerful showdown between Prempeh College, one-time champion and Kumasi High School, who entered the knockout round as defending champions.

Debating on the motion, “Politicians are more corrupt than civil servants”, Kumasi High took the side for the motion, while Prempeh stood against it.
The debate was intense and well-fought, with both schools bringing on their A-game.
But in the end, Prempeh College emerged victorious with 231 points, narrowly edging out Kumasi High School, which scored 229 again, a unanimous decision from all three judges.
A razor-thin two-point margin sealed the win.
The final standings for this year’s Luv FM High School Debate are:
- Prempeh College – Champions
- Kumasi High School – 1st Runner-up
- KNUST SHS – 2nd Runner-up
- St. Louis Girls SHS – 4th place
Speaking at the closing event, the General Manager of Luv FM, Jimmy Aglah, stated:
“This year’s debate thrived because of three factors. One, the students who spoke boldly; two, the mentors who guided them; and three, the community—all of you, they could be heard. As we close this afternoon, please remember that what we witnessed here was never just about winning points or trophies; it was about planting seeds of ideas, leadership and fearless expressions.

The competition didn’t just crown winners; it celebrated weeks of research, teamwork, and student excellence. Each motion challenged schools to engage national and global issues critically.
