President John Dramani Mahama

A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics suggests that President John Dramani Mahama would win by a wider margin if the 2024 general election were to be held again.

According to the survey released on December 31, 62 per cent of respondents said they would vote for President Mahama, while 31 per cent would support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Alan Kyerematen and Nana Kwame Bediako each received 2 per cent support, with other candidates making up the remaining 3 per cent.

The poll indicates that Dr Bawumia would win the Northern Region but lose the Eastern Region to President Mahama. It also points to some level of cross-party voting. About 11 per cent of respondents who identify as New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters said they would vote for President Mahama, while 4 per cent of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters said they would back Dr Bawumia.

On the contest to lead the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections, the poll shows Dr Bawumia as the preferred choice overall, with 56 per cent support. He is followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 28 per cent. Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum each polled 6 per cent, while Kwabena Agyapong recorded 4 per cent.

Among declared NPP supporters, Dr Bawumia’s lead increases significantly to 72 per cent. Kennedy Agyapong follows with 19 per cent, Bryan Acheampong with 4 per cent, Dr Osei-Adutwum with 3 per cent, and Kwabena Agyapong with 1 per cent.

The poll also examined the race to succeed President Mahama in 2029. It shows a closely contested three-way race, with Haruna Iddrisu leading at 26 per cent, down from 29 per cent in October 2025. Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson follows with 23 per cent, up from 18 per cent, while NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia is third with 22 per cent, down from 24 per cent.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang placed fourth with 11 per cent, followed by Julius Debrah with 7 per cent, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa with 6 per cent, Professor Joshua Alabi with 2 per cent, and Eric Opoku with 2 per cent.

However, in a scenario where Professor Opoku-Agyemang, Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa do not contest, the poll shows Dr Ato Forson taking a clear lead with 48 per cent. Johnson Asiedu Nketia follows with 41 per cent, while Professor Joshua Alabi polls 6 per cent and Eric Opoku records 5 per cent.
