Police restore calm after violent Mankessim, Ekumfi youth clash

The Central Regional Police Command has restored calm following a violent clash between some youth of Ekumfi Eyisam and Mankessim at the Shell fuel station in Mankessim, which left one person injured.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Friday, January 3, 2026, at about 7:20 pm, when the police received a distress call reporting a fight involving a group of young men at the Shell fuel station.

The Mankessim night patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene upon receipt of the information. However, on arrival, the youth involved in the disturbance fled the area after pelting stones at each other upon sighting the police.

The patrol team pursued the suspects but was unable to arrest any of them. A subsequent search of the surrounding areas also did not lead to any arrests.

The Police noted that “information gathered at the scene revealed that, on the same day about 1400hrs, the youth of Eyisam were attending a wedding at Mankessim and had information that one of them was attacked and beaten up at Accra lorry station by some youth of Mankessim, whilst looking for a car to Eyisam.

“The Eyisam youth, upon hearing this, after the wedding, decided to come to the Accra lorry station and look for the one who attacked their brother. At the Accra lorry station, someone was identified to them as the person who attacked their friend and beat him.

“The Eyisam youth chased the supposed aggressor into the chicken man’s shop near the Shell fuel station and in their quest to get the suspect at the Chicken Man’s shop, one of the glass doors at the shop was broken, and they retreated.

“The Mankessim area boys also rushed to the scene, and the two sides started pelting stones at each other and later fled upon seeing the police.

The clash was eventually disrupted when police arrived, causing both groups to flee.

The injured victim, identified as Wisdom, was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), where he is responding to treatment.

Police say calm has since been restored, and the area was monitored throughout the night to prevent any further disturbances.

The Central Regional Police Command has indicated that investigations are ongoing.
