Police probe truck intercepted with 36 sacks of suspected indian hemp at Asesewa

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation after a truck carrying 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics was intercepted on the Sekesua road in the Eastern Region.

According to the Police, the incident occurred on September 30 when officers from the Eastern Regional Headquarters in Koforidua stopped a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23.

A search of the vehicle revealed that it was half-filled with sawdust, but concealed within it were 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The Police explained that after the truck was taken to the Sekesua Police Station, the driver and his mate managed to escape, abandoning the vehicle.

“Efforts have since been intensified to get the two suspects re-arrested,” the Police said.

The vehicle and all 36 sacks of suspected narcotics are currently being held at the Eastern Regional Command. The Police also urged the public to disregard misleading claims that the sacks had mysteriously turned into sawdust.

“We therefore urge the public to disregard false media reports claiming that the 36 sacks have turned into sawdust,” the Police added.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has begun its own investigations into the case, while efforts continue to track down the escaped suspects.
