The Ghana Police Service says it has launched an investigation into a shooting incident involving a female police officer that led to the death of a taxi driver at Tetegu, near Weija, Accra, on Sunday, 19th January, 2026.
The police, in a press release issued Tuesday, said their preliminary findings indicate that the incident followed a confrontation between the policewoman and the taxi driver.
According to the statement, the officer allegedly shot the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi. The victim was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police say further investigations revealed that the policewoman was subsequently struck by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently on admission, receiving medical attention.
Exhibits retrieved from the scene include one live 9mm round, a magazine and one empty 9mm cartridge.
The Police Service says investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further developments would be communicated in due course.
