Police arrest two more suspects in Adabraka Gold shop heist

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the arrest of two more suspects linked to the infamous Adabraka Gold Shop robbery, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to three.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony of 100 new police vehicles on Thursday, January 8, Mr Yohuno revealed that the suspects were apprehended early in the morning in Ashaiman, following extensive intelligence operations.

The suspects, identified as Hamza Agrigo, alias Nene Bawku, and Alhassan Eliasu, alias Arab Man, were found in possession of dangerous items, including firearms, ammunition, bulletproof vests, and other exhibits.

Their arrest comes after an earlier breakthrough in the investigation, with Salim Mohammed alias Fariwata, a key suspect, being apprehended on November 20, 2025.

“I am happy to announce that, following intensive intelligence operations, two additional suspects linked to the Adabraka gold shop robbery have been arrested this dawn at Ashaiman,” IGP Yohuno confirmed in his address to the media.

The Adabraka Gold Shop robbery, which shook the capital in 2025, involved a well-coordinated armed attack on the premises, resulting in significant losses and public concern about the rising levels of violent crime.

The IGP highlighted the growing recognition within law enforcement circles that modern crimes increasingly transcend national borders.

To effectively combat this, Ghana’s police service has strengthened its international partnerships, notably through INTERPOL, WAPCO (West African Police Chiefs Organisation), and various bilateral engagements with neighbouring countries.

“We recognise that modern crimes know no borders, and that is why we have strengthened our cooperation through INTERPOL, WAPCO, and other diplomatic channels,” Yohuno stated.

These enhanced partnerships have already yielded significant successes. Notably, through intelligence-sharing and collaborative efforts, the police were able to rescue two Ghanaian women who had been trafficked to Nigeria.

The women, known to be involved in criminal activities, were rescued in a successful operation. Furthermore, a key suspect, who had been involved in high-level robberies, was apprehended in Togo.

Internally, the Ghana Police Service has also made significant strides in apprehending high-profile fugitives.

The arrest of individuals linked to major robberies, including the Adabraka gold shop robbery, underscores the force’s ongoing commitment to tackling violent crime head-on.

Mr Yohuno assured the public that these developments signal the beginning of a broader and sustained crackdown on criminal activity across the country.

“The arrest of high-profile fugitives such as those involved in the Adabraka gold robbery, among many others, continues to reassure us that we are taking firm and decisive action against violent crime,” he remarked.
