Piwak Natural Health CEO donates GH¢300K to Abokobi market women

The CEO of Piwak Natural Health, Dr Prince Nelson Mortoti, has donated GH¢300,000 to support market women in Abokobi, aiming to empower them economically.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr Mortoti described market women as the “unsung heroes of Ghana’s economy,” noting that their contributions often go unnoticed despite their vital role in sustaining local trade and job creation.

“Market traders are our local heroes, truly contributing to the growth of Ghana’s economy. These traders, who are not on any government payroll, work hard every day to earn a living and create jobs for others,” he said. “They deserve our recognition and support.”

Dr. Mortoti also called for a shift in societal attitudes toward market traders, urging Ghanaians to value their efforts and reject the stigma associated with trading.

“When we were growing up, many children were ashamed to admit their parents were traders because it was seen as a sign of failure,” he observed.

“Teachers must stop telling struggling students that they will end up selling charcoal or plantain. Market women are entrepreneurs — they are money-makers who contribute significantly to national growth.”

He recounted how some traders have transformed their lives through hard work, including one woman who built a two-storey house and educated her children up to tertiary level from her cassava dough business.

Dr. Mortoti acknowledged the challenges market women face, such as lack of access to capital, limited trading spaces, health concerns, and single parenting.

He said the donation was part of Piwak’s broader effort to support women-led businesses.

“We understand the sacrifices market women make — waking up at midnight to trade and returning home late. This support is a token to help them revitalise their businesses,” he added.

The Piwak CEO further announced plans to launch the Piwak Foundation, aimed at mobilising resources to empower more market women nationwide. He encouraged the public to support the initiative and trust Piwak’s herbal products for their proven quality and effectiveness.

She highlighted the resilience of women in her constituency and urged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely.

A representative of the 300 beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mortoti, saying the gesture came as a timely lifeline for struggling traders.
