Pedaling towards progress: GHs60k bicycle donation eases student commutes at Nafisa Institute in Kumasi

Students at the Nafisa Institute Makaranta will now navigate their journeys to school with greater ease, thanks to a transformative donation of 24 branded bicycles valued at GHS60,000 from Trans-Sahara Industries and Opportunity International Savings and Loans.

The initiative, designed to alleviate the burden of long-distance commutes, directly supports
students who previously faced exhausting walks to access education.

During a ceremony at the Islamic school, founder Alhaji Habib Sariki presented the bicycles—each worth Ghs2,500—to students identified as most affected by transportation barriers.

The donation underscores a strategic partnership focused on dismantling practical obstacles to learning in the Kumasi community.

“For years, distance has drained our students’ energy before they even reach the classroom,”
stated Alhaji Sariki.

“These bicycles are engines of change. They represent hours saved, fatigue reduced, and potential unlocked. Our deepest gratitude goes to Trans-Sahara Industries and Opportunity International Savings and Loans for investing not just in bikes, but in our children’s futures.”

The bicycle donation addresses critical challenges by:

  1. Boosting Attendance:Reducing absenteeism linked to exhaustion or long travel times.
  2. Ensuring Punctuality:Helping students arrive alert and ready to learn.
  3. Enhancing Safety:Providing a reliable alternative to walking in adverse conditions.
  4. Promoting Equity:Ensuring distance no longer dictates educational access.
Representatives from both organizations emphasized their commitment to grassroots
    educational development.

“Education should never be hindered by geography,” said a Trans-Sahara Industries spokesperson. “Partnering with Opportunity International Savings and Loans and Nafisa Institute allows us to tangibly empower students—each bicycle is a vehicle for opportunity.”

An Opportunity International delegate added: “This collaboration reflects our belief in removing systemic barriers. By easing commutes, we’re fueling both academic focus and lifelong opportunity.”

The bicycles, branded with the partners’ logos, symbolize a shared vision for accessible education. As recipients pedal toward brighter futures, this initiative sets a replicable model for public-private partnerships to bridge gaps in educational equity across Ghana.
