Peace Council condemns Sampa chieftaincy clash, urges non-violent peace approach

The Bono Regional Peace Council (NPC) has urged traditional feuding factions in the protracted Sampa Chieftaincy dispute to use non-violent approaches of mediation and dialogue to settle their differences for the purpose of peace and progressive development.

It condemned the recent renewed violent clashes between the two traditional factions, reminding them that violence in any form hinders development, undermines good governance and creates suspicion in social systems and ultimately destroys relationships.

A statement issued and signed by Alhaji Suallah Abdallah Quandah, the Bono Regional Secretary of the NPC, said: “We have learned with deep concern and sadness about the recent violence at Sampa, which has resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of properties, and the displacement of innocent residents”.

“The Council strongly condemns these acts of violence and destruction, which threaten the peace, unity, and development of Sampa in particular and the Bono Region.”

It said that though disagreements or better still conflicts were a natural part of human existence, that should not trigger violence.

“Therefore, when it occurs, violence should not be an option in dealing with it,” and urgently appealed to all parties involved to cease hostilities immediately and exercise maximum restraint.

The statement further called on the traditional authorities, youth groups, community leaders, and all stakeholders to appreciate peace for development and business growth in Sampa.

It assured that the NPC in the region was also taking steps to engage with all actors and stakeholders in the conflict to facilitate peaceful and constructive means of dealing with the situation and reminded the people that peace was a collective responsibility.

“No development can thrive in an environment of violence and instability”, it stated and implored the natives of Sampa and the entire Bono Region to remain calm, cooperate with the security agencies, and support ongoing peace efforts.

The statement reaffirmed the NPC’s commitment to promoting and sustaining peace, unity, and social harmony throughout the region, saying “with collaboration, we can together restore calm and rebuild trust for the benefit of all”.
