Ing. Francis Lamptey

The outgoing Volta regional boss of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Chief Manager, Ing. Francis Lamptey, has called for continuity and commitment to safeguard the progress made in water delivery across the region.

Ing. Lamptey stressed the need to sustain the momentum established under his leadership, cautioning that any decline in performance would risk undermining the credibility of past efforts.

“We have reached a point where any drop in performance would suggest that what we did was merely cosmetic,” he remarked in a press engagement in Ho before leaving the region for his new station.

He expressed full confidence in the team he leaves behind, stating that systems implemented over the past two years are robust enough to support operations as the new leadership’s vision gradually takes shape.

Reflecting on key achievements, Ing. Lamptey disclosed that by the end of July, all water production centres in the region are expected to reach full operational capacity, significantly enhancing service reliability. While many communities currently receive water only once a week, he expressed optimism that following Ghana’s completion of the IMF programme in 2026, GWCL will be positioned to provide uninterrupted, 24/7 access to water.

He acknowledged a persistent gap between demand and supply but assured the public that a comprehensive demand management plan has been introduced to align public expectations and encourage effective household water storage habits.

Customer satisfaction, he noted, has been a central priority during his tenure. “When we are unable to deliver, we do not go silent, we engage the media and explain,” he said, expressing hope that this culture of transparency and accountability will be maintained.

Ing. Lamptey also spoke about critical infrastructure improvements. He mentioned the anticipated arrival and installation of new switchgear for the Kpeve facility by July, which is expected to prevent service disruptions in the Ho Municipality and neighbouring valley communities. He further revealed that the company is set to sink the Nua borehole following productive engagements with the Ketu North Traditional Authorities.

Looking ahead, he proposed a major investment initiative to develop a borehole farm by integrating four to five boreholes to serve both the immediate area and surrounding communities. He also mentioned that key reports and strategic recommendations will be submitted to aid the incoming leadership in securing further investments.

Ing. Lamptey underscored the importance of continued collaboration with stakeholders, including the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources and traditional leaders, whose support, he said, has been pivotal to the company’s achievements in the Volta Region.

“I trust the team I worked with will do even more,” he concluded, reaffirming his belief in the continuity of vision and the pursuit of a reliable, sustainable water supply for all in the Volta Region.
