Otumfuo Foundation commissions teachers’ bungalow project at St. Louis SHS

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has commissioned a two-storey teachers’ bungalow at St. Louis Senior High School in Kumasi to address the school’s long-standing accommodation challenges for teachers.

The project, financed by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited and constructed by Living Grace Company Ltd, began in September 2024 and was completed within a year.

The commissioning was performed on behalf of the Asantehene by his Hiahene and Board Chairman of the Foundation, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, assisted by a representative from Ghana Gas, Joyce Kissiwaa Oduro.

With a student population of over 5,500 and 229 teaching staff, only about 30 teachers currently reside on campus. The new bungalow therefore comes as a major relief to the school, offering much-needed accommodation for its teaching staff.

Although the building was originally designed as a three-storey structure, only two floors have been completed so far. Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei explained that the Foundation decided to proceed with a partial commissioning due to the urgency of housing needs.

“We couldn’t wait for the additional funds because we had to move the teachers in. This is just a partial commissioning; we shall do the full commissioning once the third floor is completed,” he assured.

Hiahene reaffirmed Otumfuo’s vision for Ghana and his dedication to educational development.

“The commissioning of this teachers’ apartment is a testament to His Majesty’s royal commitment to education. His vision for a better Ghana, where every child has access to quality education, is being realised through initiatives like this and other ongoing projects being undertaken by the Foundation,” he said.

Representing Ghana Gas CEO Mrs. Judith Adjoba Blay, Joyce Kissiwaa Oduro, Senior Officer-in-charge of Community Relations and CSR, highlighted the company’s motivation for supporting the project.

“We at Ghana Gas see this collaboration not just as an act of goodwill but as a strategic partnership that aligns deeply with our CSR mandate of developing sustainable programmes and improving the quality of life of Ghanaians.”

“Providing decent accommodation for teachers helps to create stable, dedicated, and inspired teaching communities. When teachers are comfortable, students thrive, and when students thrive, the nation’s future shines brighter,” she said.

The Headmistress of St. Louis SHS, Mrs. Ama Kyerewaa Benefo, expressed profound gratitude to the Otumfuo Foundation and Ghana Gas for their support.

“A few months ago, it looked like a mirage, but thanks to the excellent cooperation of the Otumfuo Foundation and Ghana Gas Company, we have lived to see the reality of this project. We are eternally grateful for your tireless efforts to ease the housing needs of our teachers,” she expressed.

The facility forms part of Otumfuo’s broader vision to promote quality education across Ghana through improved infrastructure for both students and teachers.
