The Oti Regional Minister, Dr. Joshua Makubu, has called for an immediate end to tribal clashes among the various communities in Nkwanta.

The minister’s appeal comes amidst rising tensions that have unfortunately resulted in clashes between tribes in the region leading to deaths.

Dr. Makubu at a brief meeting with media personnel seeking clarification on the brutalities in Nkwanta, expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of conflicts and violence within the community.

He emphasised the importance of unity and understanding among the diverse tribes that coexist in the region.

“Peace is the cornerstone of development, and without it, progress becomes elusive. It is disheartening to witness our communities torn apart by tribal conflicts, which only serve to hinder the growth and prosperity we all seek,” remarked Dr. Makubu during the press briefing.

The Oti Regional Minister urged community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents alike to embrace dialogue and reconciliation as the means to resolve differences.

He stressed the need for open communication channels to foster understanding and build bridges between the various tribes in Nkwanta.

“I implore all parties involved to come to the table with open hearts and minds. Let us prioritize peaceful dialogue over violence, understanding over ignorance and unity over division. We are stronger together,” Dr. Makubu declared.

As part of his initiative to promote peace, the minister announced plans to convene a peace summit that would bring together representatives from the conflicting tribes, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

The summit aims to create a platform for open discussions, allowing participants to voice their concerns and work collectively towards sustainable solutions.

Local residents have expressed their support for the minister’s efforts, with many hoping that the peace summit will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Nkwanta.

Some community leaders have already indicated their willingness to participate in the dialogue, expressing optimism that a resolution can be reached through peaceful means.
