The Oti Regional House of Chiefs has lauded President John Mahama for his nomination of Dr Johnson Asiama as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, describing it as a reflection of the President’s commitment to meritocracy.

The House expressed its heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama, emphasizing that Dr. Asiama’s appointment will significantly advance Ghana’s financial sector.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Oti Regional House of Chiefs under the esteemed leadership of Nana Soglo Alloh IV and was shared with JOY BUSINESS.

Background

On January 31, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama announced Dr. Johnson Asiama as the nominee for the position of Bank of Ghana Governor, pending approval by the Council of State.

This nomination follows the formal request of the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, to take leave before his retirement, which is set for March 31, 2025.

According to a statement from the Jubilee House, Dr. Asiama brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana between 2016 and 2017.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and has extensive expertise in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.

The Presidency’s statement further highlighted Dr. Asiama’s deep understanding of Ghana’s financial system, positioning him well to lead the central bank.

Oti Region House of Chiefs’ Remarks on Dr Asiama’s Competence

The Oti Region House of Chiefs expressed confidence in Dr Asiama’s expertise and integrity, noting that it was his unwavering dedication to national service that influenced his nomination.

“His expertise and integrity make him exceptionally qualified to steer the Bank of Ghana towards achieving its mandate of ensuring monetary stability and fostering economic growth,” they stated.

The Chiefs also expressed full confidence in Dr. Asiama’s ability to manage the country’s monetary space.

“We are confident in his ability to navigate the complexities of our nation’s economy with wisdom and foresight.”

The Oti Regional House of Chiefs called on all Ghanaians to support Dr. Asiama, setting aside partisan interests, and work together for the prosperity of the nation.
