Former Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, has urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism as it investigates former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, Mrs Osei Asare stressed that while she preferred not to comment extensively on the ongoing case, it was essential that the OSP discharges its duties with integrity and fairness.
“The OSP has a mandate, and I do not wish to comment on the ongoing matter involving Ken Ofori-Atta in the name of public accountability. The OSP must do what is expected of it, but I believe that in whatever we do, professionalism is key. The OSP has to carry out its mandate, but they should also know that it has to be professional so that at the end of the day, we all achieve the common goal. That is how I look at it,” she said.
Reiterating her point, she added, “The OSP has a mandate and must discharge it because it has come to stay and help us fight corruption.”
The Office of the Special Prosecutor is currently investigating Mr Ofori-Atta over alleged financial irregularities and conflict of interest during his time as Finance Minister.
The probe includes scrutiny of government bond transactions, consultancy arrangements involving Databank—a firm co-founded by Mr Ofori-Atta—as well as SML-GRA contracts and other key financial agreements he oversaw.
The investigation has drawn significant public attention, with increasing calls for transparency and accountability in the handling of the matter.
The OSP has declared Mr Ofori-Atta a wanted person and a fugitive from justice, and has therefore put him on INTERPOL Red notice.
