Opponents dazed by our support in Northern region – Bawumia Campaign denies coersion claim

The campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is seeking to be elected presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has rejected allegations of coercion in the Northern Region, insisting the claims are driven by panic among rival camps unsettled by the level of support the campaign is attracting.

Deputy Spokesperson for the Dr. Bawumia Campaign Team, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, said the endorsements recorded during the campaign’s recent tour of the region were voluntary, organic, and overwhelming.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, Dr. Amoakoh dismissed the allegations as unfounded and insulting to the intelligence of party delegates.

Dr. Amoakoh further alleged that rival campaigns are struggling to gain traction despite earlier visits to the region.

“I don’t believe these allegations even deserve a response,” she said.

“Our opponents are dazed by the quantum of endorsements we are receiving. They are panicking and trying to explain why their message is not resonating,” she added.

She explained that delegates in the region deliberately waited for Dr. Bawumia’s visit before publicly declaring their support, particularly during his engagement in Tamale Central.

According to her, scenes from the event — widely circulated on social media — show women organisers crowding the stage and chanting their support for Dr. Bawumia, a development she said contradicts claims of intimidation.

“You cannot watch those videos and conclude that the delegates were threatened. That suggestion is almost an insult to their intelligence,” she stated.

Her comments come after the Bryan Acheampong campaign team raised concerns over alleged pressure on delegates in the Northern Region, including claims that some were threatened with removal from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) album if they failed to support Dr. Bawumia.
