Online fraud, cyberbullying, and blackmail dominate Ghana’s cybercrime cases in 2025 — CSA Report

Online fraud, cyberbullying, and online blackmail have emerged as Ghana’s most reported cybercrimes this year, according to new data from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).

The report reveals a sharp surge in digital offences, with 3,286 cases recorded across various categories between January and September 2025.

Online fraud topped the list with 1,200 reported incidents, accounting for more than one-third of all cases. These scams, involving mobile money fraud, fake investment schemes, and phishing attacks, have cost individuals and businesses millions of cedis.

Cyberbullying followed with 738 cases, reflecting a growing concern over online harassment, particularly against women and young people.

Online blackmail ranked third with 507 incidents, while unauthorised access and information disclosure accounted for 390 and 288 cases, respectively.

The CSA attributed the rise in these crimes to increasing digital dependence and low public awareness of online safety.

Officials urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant — verifying online transactions, strengthening passwords, and promptly reporting suspicious activities.

The Authority said it is intensifying cybersecurity awareness campaigns and enforcement actions to safeguard Ghana’s expanding digital ecosystem.
