The Okere MP, Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth, has launched a tourism promotion campaign dubbed “Get Okere Walking” at the 2026 Adukrom Odwira Festival in the Eastern Region.
The initiative, which precedes the maiden “Walk Okere” event scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026, aims to position the Okere enclave as a leading eco-tourism and outdoor recreation destination in Ghana.
Addressing chiefs, residents, and visitors at the Odwira durbar in Adukrom, the MP expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities and people of Okere for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to build on the development agenda of his predecessor.
“I remain committed to consolidating the progress made and working closely with our traditional leaders to advance development in the constituency,” he said.
Mr Nana Addo Kenneth commended the organisers of the Odwira Festival and the Walk Okere initiative, describing the campaign as evidence of strengthened collaboration between political leadership and traditional authorities.
The Walk Okere event will feature a group walk from Adukrom to Aseseeso Road, a scenic hilly stretch along the Nkurakan–Trom Junction Road, also known as the Dan Botwe Highway.
He noted that the route’s distinctive landscape and improved road network make it suitable for hiking, walking, and adventure tourism, offering an alternative destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
“Okere is endowed with beautiful hills, serene surroundings, and good road infrastructure. This campaign is about unlocking those assets to attract tourists, hikers, and investors,” he said.
The MP added that increased tourist traffic would boost local economic activity in hospitality, transport, food vending, tour guiding, and other small-scale businesses.
He also encouraged private investors to explore opportunities in Okere, describing the enclave as an emerging tourism destination with strong growth potential.
The decision to hold the event on Valentine’s Day, he said, adds symbolic significance by promoting unity, togetherness, and shared experiences among couples, families, youth, and visitors.
The “Get Okere Walking” campaign is expected to become an annual attraction, reinforcing Okere’s profile as a growing tourism hub in the Eastern Region.
