NYA CEO calls for stronger action against drug importation and abuse

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga Esq., has called on all Ghanaians—particularly the Ghana Immigration Service, the Customs Division, and the Ghana Police Service—to intensify efforts in combating substance abuse among the youth.

He made the appeal during a bike riding event organised by BikeLife in collaboration with the NYA at the Black Star Square.

Mr Ayariga stressed that with the active support of the security services, the national fight against drug abuse can be significantly strengthened.

He explained that many illegal substances enter the country through routes monitored by Customs, Immigration and the Police, making these agencies critical stakeholders in preventing the inflow of drugs.

He further urged the youth to desist from drug use, reminding them of their potential and the bright future ahead.

Mr Ayariga encouraged young people to take advantage of the Government’s Reset Agenda by enrolling in initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship Programme, the One Million Coders initiative, and the Edwumawura Programme to secure better opportunities for their future.

The CEO commended BikeLife for organising such a meaningful event and acknowledged the various rider groups for their participation and commitment.

He concluded by praising the youth for their massive turnout, describing it as a clear indication of their interest in the national campaign against substance abuse.

He added that the bike riding event would not end only in Accra, but would be extended to other regions to campaign against drug abuse.

The Bike Riding Event at the Black Star Square featured numerous bikers showcasing their skills, all in an effort to amplify the message encouraging young people to say no to substance abuse.
