Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has questioned President John Mahama’s decision to appoint Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan to two high-profile positions.

He raised concerns over the Brigadier General’s simultaneous appointments as Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Commissioner of the Customs Division at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

In a social media post on Sunday, March 23, Ntim Fordjour criticised the move, suggesting that it was politically motivated and lacked due process.

“Few days after JM appointed Stan Dogbe’s bosom friend Brig Gen Ashong Annan as Chief of Staff of Ghana Armed Forces, even before his assumption of duty, same Brig Gen Ashong Annan secures another appointment as Commissioner of Customs at GRA,” he remarked.

He also questioned the officer’s suitability for the role, alleging that Brig. Gen. Annan was the most junior among his peers and was promoted ahead of others for partisan reasons.

The appointment of Brig. Gen. Annan as Commissioner of Customs was announced in an official statement signed by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The statement described Brig. Gen. Annan as a distinguished officer with the expertise to reform the Customs Division and assist the GRA in meeting its revenue targets as part of broader economic recovery efforts.

However, the statement did not address concerns regarding his prior appointment as GAF Chief of Staff.

Ntim Fordjour further challenged the transparency of the appointment process, demanding clarity on whether Brig. Gen. Annan’s initial role in the Ghana Armed Forces had been revoked.

“Is JM too confused? Or Stan Dogbe wants to grab multiple juicy positions for his friends to aid easy chop-chop?” he questioned.

“Where is the letter that revoked Brig Gen Ashong Annan’s earlier appointment as CoS in GAF?”
