Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has denied allegations linking him to threats of violence in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, July 29, the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee described circulating social media reports as “malicious” and “false.”
“I wish to state unequivocally that such headlines, captions and statements are false and are only intended to create public disaffection for me,” Rev. Ntim Fordjour said.
He further clarified that he has never, under any circumstances, threatened bloodshed or violence in any election in Ghana.
“I want to assure the general public that under no circumstances will I be involved in acts of violence, much less threatening the same,” he added.
The MP reiterated his longstanding opposition to political violence, stating it is a matter of public record that he has consistently condemned electoral violence and called for accountability.
“I have on many occasions urged the State to take steps to prosecute perpetrators of such offences to serve as deterrence and to prevent violence and bloodshed in future elections,” he noted.
Rev. Fordjour urged the public to disregard the false reports and treat them “with the contempt they deserve.”
He also called on the individuals behind the alleged publications to desist from such actions, warning that they not only tarnish the reputation of innocent people but also pose a threat to national peace and stability.
