NSMQ 2025: Accra High School stuns with perfect riddle round to clinch regional slot

The Greater Accra Regional Qualifiers of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) continue to serve up thrilling contests, with fierce intellectual battles and unexpected comebacks.

One such intense contest on Day two of the qualifiers featured Accra High School, Tema Secondary School, and Ada Senior High School—three schools with strong reputations and high hopes of advancing.

In the first round, Tema Secondary School stood tall, confidently answering most of the questions to top the scoreboard. Ada SHS followed with 19 points, while Accra High School trailed with 16 points.

But the tide began to shift in the second round. Accra High, seemingly revitalised, stormed through the round to take the lead with 33 points. Tema Secondary School was right on their heels with 32 points. Ada SHS, however, lost some footing, ending the round with 18 points.

Round three saw a dramatic comeback by Tema Secondary School. The school dominated the true-or-false segment, regaining the top spot with 44 points. Accra High, despite a solid performance, dropped slightly behind with 41 points, while Ada SHS gained some ground, finishing the round with 31 points.

Then came the final riddle round—often the game-changer in NSMQ contests. Accra High School delivered a stunning performance, answering all four riddles correctly, a rare and remarkable feat. The flawless execution catapulted them to victory with 53 points, drawing cheers from their supporters.

Tema Secondary School, though unable to match the riddle prowess of Accra High, maintained their earlier score of 44 points, finishing second. Ada SHS wrapped up the contest with 31 points.

Despite not winning, Tema Secondary School has also secured a slot at the National Championship, thanks to their strong performance and accumulated points.

The contest not only highlighted the unpredictability of the NSMQ but also showcased the grit and brilliance of young minds determined to make their mark on Ghana’s biggest academic stage.
