The National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has acknowledged the dire state of sports facilities in Ghana, describing the situation as “quite gloomy.”
Ankrah made this admission while submitting his association’s first report to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
Speaking exclusively to Joy Sports, Ankrah expressed his concerns about the state of sports infrastructure.
“It’s quite gloomy, but we need to address them, you know, from Nkawkaw, where Honourable Bryan Acheampong intends to support Accra United through the construction of that sports stadium, subject to him presenting the relevant documents,” he said.
“He can go ahead and work there, I think it’s a good initiative and intervention and would encourage citizens, corporate Ghana, individuals, you know, investors, local and foreign, to come on board and support us in this quest. And I think the reset agenda of His Excellency the President is exactly what we’re trying to go by. Yes, we must do the work, but it must be done well, it must be done right.”
Ankrah also called for patience from Ghanaians, emphasising the need for a thorough and deliberate approach to addressing the challenges facing the sports sector.
“So, yeah, thanks for the support. And I think we’re going in the right direction, but we must be patient. It will take time. It’s not, you know, what we’ve come to meet is not something we can just fix in months. It’s taken years to get to that poor state, and it will take years to fix it. So, we need to be very patient and thorough and deliberate in the way we address these challenges,” he added.
With a focus on doing things right and a commitment to excellence, the authority is working to restore Ghana’s sports facilities to their former glory.
