Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

NPP’s Kwadwo Poku exposes Bryan Acheampong over Bawumia’s 2024 Zongo Votes

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has presented data to disprove the claim of NPP flagbearer hopeful, Bryan Acheampong that Zongos across the country did not vote for former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 presidential election.

Acheampong recently claimed that Dr. Bawumia won only one Zongo polling station across the country, and urged NPP delegates not to vote for him as the NPP’s flagbearer for 2028 because he did not get the support of the Zongos.

Bryan Acheampong’s claim, however, was widely challenged as false and mere propaganda, with many stating that Dr. Bawumia won so many Zongo polling stations across the country, and also improved significantly in a number of Zongo polling stations that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) traditionally wins heavily.

Kwadwo Poku, who entered the 2024 NPP presidential primaries, has been one of the vociferous critics of Bryan Acheampong’s claim, and he has followed it up with data on a number of Zongo polling station results from different regions that Dr. Bawumia won convincingly.

Interestingly, among the data Kwadwo Poku shared, was a Zongo polling station Dr. Bawumia won emphatically in a polling station located in Bryan Acheampong’s own constituency, where he is Member of Parliament.

At the polling station at Zongo Mosque, Kwahu Tafo, Dr. Bawumia won with 227 votes to John Mahama’s 207, and Kwadwo Poku questioned how Bryan Acheampong could “deliberately” miss a Zongo polling station in his own constituency.

He explained that he had initially credited the then National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and now president John Dramani Mahama with zero ballots, based on data the NPP had recorded, which also showed the NDP garnered 207 votes, but even if that anomaly was corrected, Bawumia still won in that polling station.

“In recent days, it has been widely reported on social media that Dr. Bawumia failed to win the Zongos and Northern votes as promised during his campaign. In a viral video on TikTok, Hon. Bryan Acheampong is heard saying that Dr. Bawumia only won one Zongo in Winneba in the Effutu constituency.  In this instance, he was referring to a polling station in Effutu: Muslim Mosque Abasraba:  DMB – 273 : JM – 258,” Kwadwo Poku said.

“This statement is far from the truth since in Abetifi, Hon. Bryan’s own constituency, Dr. Bawumia recorded convincing victory at Zongo Mosque, Kwahu Tafo.”

“For verification, the polling station number is E311603.”

“Dr. Bawumia won in several polling stations in Zongos across the country,” he added.

Below are some of the polling stations where Dr Bawumia won in Zongos, which Kwadwo Poku shared to back his assertion that Bryan Acheampong got it completely wrong.
