Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has sought to clarify the “we have the men” statement made by Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday, April 11, he stated that the statement did not insinuate that the NPP will resort to violence in the upcoming elections.

He rather explained that his colleague meant that, in the event that the NDC resorts to violence during the 2024 elections, the NPP can stand up to them in same measure to ensure the country’s democracy and peace will not be endangered.

On Saturday the Abetifi MP addressing party faithful said the current NPP will not hand over power to the opposition NDC.

According to him, the party will use whatever means necessary to remain in power in the 2024 general election.

He added that if the NDC dares to use threats, and brute force in the 2024 election, the NPP will show them that they have the men.

According to him, the NDC will collapse and the NPP we will show them that “we have the men”.

Mr Acheampong said this will never happen and that the NPP will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC.

He has since been condemned by both the NDC and civil society organisations.

However, Mr Ahiagbah said the Abetifi MP’s comment has been misconstrued.

He stated that “The issue of we have the men, it is simply to just let you know that we will not offer proactively to be violent, but will resist any appearance of violence that would jeopardise our democracy.”

Also, explained that the statement meant the NPP have the men that will rejuvenate the economy.

According to him, this is true because Ghana’s economy was recovering and progressive when the NPP came into power in 2017.
