The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has said that come this May, the party will open a school of leadership and governance for members to learn the history, constitution, and traditions of the party.

According to him, the Michael Oquaye Committee reveals that most members of the party had little or no knowledge about the structures, traditions and ideological philosophy of NPP, so they could exit the party or cause disunity anytime internal crises or misunderstanding arose.

Addressing the rank and file of the party in Goaso in the Ahafo region on Monday, during the ‘Thank You Tour’ to the area, Mr Frimpong said the party has still not recovered from the shock it experienced in their massive loss in the 2024 general elections.

The Ahafo region after the 2020 elections had four parliamentary seats out of the six namely Tano South and North, Asutifi North and Asunafo North Constituencies respectively, with the NDC having two; Asunafo South and Asutifi South Constituencies.

In the presidential polls in 2020, candidate Nana Akufo-Addo garnered a total 144,778 making 55.04 % while John Mahama of the NDC got 116,307 representing 44.22%.

After the 2024 elections, the the NDC snatched additional three seats making five with the NPP’s Gideon Boako winning the Tano North Constituency, the only hope of the party in the region currently.

Candidate John Dramani Mahama had 128,986 totalling 52.46% while Dr Bawumia had 113,262 registering a little over 42%.

The NPP General Secretary noted that the Oquaye’s committee report will be kept secret from the public, saying that the NDC will use it against them in the next election, and it could lead the NPP to stay in opposition for many years.

Meanwhile, a former flagbearer hopeful of the party, Kennedy Agyapong, is pleading with members of the party to forgive each other, saying, “I’ve forgiven those who insulted me during our internal elections. Everyone should also forgive.”

Dr Bawumia, the former Vice President and flagbearer of the party in the 2024 general elections, said he performed more than most of their parliamentary candidates, believing that most party members at the grassroots were peeved and decided not to vote.

He still insisted that though Nana Akufo-Addo performed creditably in his eight-year term as president, Ghanaians still voted the NPP out due to economic hardships, galamsey, and other propaganda initiated by the NDC, saying that with the abysmal performance of the NDC government currently, the NPP will bounce back in 2028.
