Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, has called for steadfast unity among members as the party convenes its National Delegates Conference in Accra.
In a Facebook statement on 19 July 2025, Prempeh popularly known as “NAPO”, emphasized the resilience of the NPP’s Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition amid ongoing reforms.
“From our earliest days, we have faced challenges yet stood firm rooted in principle,” Prempeh wrote, underscoring the conference’s role in strengthening party cohesion. His appeal comes as over 5,000 delegates debate constitutional amendments and strategic repositioning following the NPP’s 2024 election loss to the ruling NDC. The gathering aims to consolidate the opposition’s foundation ahead of Ghana’s 2028 polls, where President Mahama’s NDC will field a new candidate.
Prempeh urged delegates to “renew commitment to the party’s heritage” during deliberations. His message aligns with broader calls for introspection by senior figures including Chairman Wontumi and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah. The conference outcomes are expected to formalize reforms addressing youth engagement, ethical realignment, and electoral strategy.
