Polling station executives and some constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kwesimintsim Constituency of the Western Region have voluntarily picked nomination forms for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat for the area.

MP for the constituency, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, is said to also contest the 2024 parliamentary primaries of the party, slated for January 27, 2023.

In the early hours of Wednesday, December 20, 2023, hundreds of party sympathisers thronged the streets of the area, where they began a procession to the party’s constituency office at Kwesimintsim, amidst brass band music.

At the party’s constituency office, the polling station executives submitted a cheque for GH¢3000 to the election committee, and picked the nomination forms on behalf of the MP.

After about 30 minutes, they filled the forms and resumed another procession to the party’s office in the area, and submitted the form and cheque of GH¢35,000 to the election committee on behalf of the MP.

Speaking to journalists later, Alfred Yeboah, First Vice Chairman of the NPP in the constituency said, “We picked the forms for our MP and submitted it on same day. This indicates that we are ready.” He touted the achievements of the MP so far in the constituency, and was hopeful that the legislature would do more.
“The over 400 polling station executives after seeing the good works done by the MP had thought it wise to support him by contributing monies and other resources to sponsor the nomination forms for the MP,” he added. He assured that, the MP would continue to work hard to bring development to his people while advancing and supporting the course and vision of the party.

He called on the rank and file of the party to come together to support the good works of the MP, and support his quest to retain his seat in the next general elections. The constituency chairman of the party, Jerry Hanson, explained that Article 7 of the party’s constitution explained that there should be the selection of parliamentary candidates after every four years.

“Now we are done with selecting parliamentary candidates in the party’s orphan constituencies, and God willing in January next year, the party will conduct in constituencies where it has sitting MPs,” he explained.

He said even though the national executives of the party had indicated that those who pick forms should submit them five days after picking them, the polling station executives decided to pick and submit the forms on the same day.

He, therefore, appealed to the supporters of the MP to go all out to campaign for the MP and avoid insulting other contenders, to ensure that the party remains united even after the primaries.

He was optimistic that the NPP would retain the seat come the next general elections even though the victory would not come on a silver platter. He then urged all executives of the party to work hard to ensure the party ‘breaks the 8’ come December 2024.
