NPP lost 2024 elections because of Global InfoAnalytics polls - PNP

Founder and Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections was partly due to opinion polls that predicted the party’s downfall.

Speaking on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning on Monday, September 15, Ms Nabla argued that surveys conducted by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the polls influenced voter behaviour, tilting the balance against the NPP.

“The NPP lost the 2024 election woefully because of the InfoAnalytics analysis. If I were to be them (NPP), I would not compete (in the 2024 general election); I would have looked for a researcher to also be coming up with polls against them (NDC).”

She maintained that such projections, often unfavourable to the ruling party at the time, played a decisive role in shaping public perception and voter decisions.

“They (NPP) were not forceful because the whole of Ghana, we could hear the InfoAnalytics reports, but when it comes to their (NPP) researchers, we were not hearing them much,” she added.

Her comments come in the wake of a new survey by academic researchers, which suggests that NPP stalwart Kennedy Agyapong is likely to secure victory in the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January next year.

According to her, based on the polls, “I fear for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, but also, we have to look at the person behind the polls, what is he trying to achieve?”

Ms Nabila expressed unease over the growing influence of such polls in Ghana’s political landscape, especially during election periods, warning that they risk undermining the fairness of the democratic process.
