Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has reportedly endorsed the newly inaugurated Patriotic Institute as a strategic initiative to reinforce the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ideological core.

Speaking at Wednesday’s launch at NPP Headquarters in Accra, the Effutu MP described the institute as embodying the opposition party’s commitment to “development in freedom” and “principled leadership.”

Afenyo-Markin reportedly positioned the institute as both an archive of NPP legacy and a training hub for future leaders. He cited past policy achievements—including the National Health Insurance Scheme and Free SHS program—as evidence of the party’s governance philosophy. The Minority Leader nevertheless cautioned against complacency, noting the need to articulate NPP values with greater clarity in Ghana’s evolving political landscape.

The institute will reportedly provide ideological training and policy development resources for party communicators, members, and parliamentarians. Afenyo-Markin emphasized its role in aligning legislative work with the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, enabling MPs to serve as “custodians of an intellectual tradition.” He further suggested the initiative would sharpen policy scrutiny of the ruling NDC administration under President John Mahama.

Designed as a think tank and training center, the Patriotic Institute will offer programs in political philosophy, governance, and leadership. Its establishment occurs amid the NPP’s broader repositioning following its 2024 electoral loss, with Afenyo-Markin framing it as proof the party remains “a movement of ideas.”
