Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has expressed strong confidence in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ability to deliver a credible by-election in Akwatia.
The poll has been scheduled for September 2, following the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, 20 August, Mr Mohammed praised the Commission’s record in managing elections across the country.
According to him, the EC has consistently demonstrated competence and professionalism in ensuring transparent and credible electoral processes.
“I have always had confidence in the Electoral Commission; they have conducted successful elections in Ghana since time immemorial. The processes leading to elections in Ghana have always been very open, transparent. I have no doubt that the EC will conduct a free and fair election in Akwatia,” he said.
The contest is also taking place in the shadow of recent disturbances during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which was marred by isolated clashes and assaults on journalists.
Against this backdrop, the NPP deputy scribe emphasised his belief that the EC will rise above challenges and ensure peace, fairness, and credibility in Akwatia.
