NPP condemns party-affiliated TikTok users over helicopter crash comments

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has condemned disturbing social media commentary by individuals linked to the party following the recent Z-9 military helicopter crash.

Speaking during a visit to the national headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kodua criticised comments made by some TikTok users believed to be affiliated with the NPP, describing them as “unfortunate and condemnable” and unrepresentative of the party’s values.

“It is important that, in times like these, we also show solidarity,” he said.

He emphasised that such remarks, particularly in situations involving loss of life, were unacceptable. “The NPP would never wish death on anyone, not even a worst enemy. These kinds of remarks are unhealthy for our democracy. Death is something that not even your worst enemy would wish upon you.”

Mr Kodua also noted that divisive and insensitive comments had emerged from both sides of the political divide, warning that politicising national tragedies undermines Ghana’s democratic culture.

NPP activists Sir Obama Pokuase, Fante Comedy granted bail but remain in custody

“Some are claiming that the NPP is behind these events, while others have gone so far as to say they expected more people to have died. Such remarks are dangerous and must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.”

The NPP General Secretary extended an apology to the ruling NDC government and President John Dramani Mahama for any offence caused by individuals affiliated with the party.

“If anything offensive or inappropriate has come from our side, I would like, on behalf of our party, to offer an apology to the NDC and, through you, to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. Such behaviour does not reflect the position of the New Patriotic Party, and we will never condone it.”

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the arrest of ‘Fante Comedy’ and ‘Akosua Jollof’ for commentary and threats of harm against President John Mahama.

They further noted that the arrest of Sir Obama Pokuasy, an acitvist of the NPP, is linked to “ongoing intelligence-led operations by the Police and other security agencies aimed at dismantling networks involved in the illegal possession and display of sophisticated weapons.”
