Mauritania hosts the Nouakchott+10 Forum: A new direction for livestock and pastoralism in the Sahel and West Africa
Nouakchott, October 31, 2024 – Mauritania is set to host the Nouakchott+10 Forum, a high-level event focused on livestock and pastoralism in the Sahel and West Africa. Taking place from November 6 to 8, 2024, under the theme “Nouakchott+10: A Decade of Action for Pastoral and Agropastoral Communities – Achievements and Future Pathways,” the forum commemorates ten years since the adoption of the Ndjamena and Nouakchott Declarations. These declarations aimed to secure the livelihoods of pastoralist communities while enhancing their production systems.
Organized by the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), in collaboration with Mauritania’s government and the World Bank Group, the event will bring together ministers from West African nations, development partners, private sector representatives, and experts. Discussions will focus on reviewing a decade of investments in pastoralism, assessing successes and challenges, and charting future directions for sustainable livestock development.
