NOTRE DAME GIRLS SHS ONGA COOK ART 2023

The much-anticipated grand finale of the competitive high school cooking contest has finally come to an end.

Four different schools with different claims to fame clashed at the finals of the 2023 Onga Cook Art held at Labone Senior High School.

Notre Dame Girls’ SHS’ dream to be crowned winners of the prestigious culinary skills finally met as they defeated Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS, Apam SHS, and Sefwi Bekwai SHS to clinch the ultimate prize.

The competition began with a tough theory assessment for all four contending schools, which was divided into three rounds.

At the end of the first round, Notre Dame scored 20 points, closely followed by Yaa Asantewaa and Apam with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Sefwi Bekwai scored 12 points.

Although the lead position was keenly contested by the two girls’ schools, Notre Dame maintained the momentum and eventually won the theoretical gymnastics with 40 out of 50 points.

To crown it all in Part B of the contest, the Bono region’s goddesses thrilled the judges by wonderfully and creatively executing the kitchen task of the day, which was to cook and serve a two-course lunch for a lacto-ovo vegetarian by selecting appropriate protein from local commodities of their choice within an hour.

The noble ladies of Notre Dame won the trophy and two gold medals with 80 points. In addition to the medal, the contestant received some goodies from Onga and Cowbell, as well as the ultimate GH₵20,000.00 cash prize.

Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ backed the silver medals with 76.5 points in addition to some products from Onga and Cowbell, including a cash prize of GH₵15,000.00

The Central regional champions, Apam SHS, emerged third with 73.5 points, earning them two bronze medals and souvenirs from Onga Cowbell.

The Zone B champions, Sefwi Bekwai SHS, became fourth with 67.5 points. They also received 2 Cowbell hampers, 2 hampers, and 2 foldable baskets from Onga.

The judges, Patience Darko and Chef Michael Quainoo were impressed with the creativity and intelligence exhibited by the students.

Notre Dame Girls’ SHS has finally realised their dream as the champions of the 5th edition of the Onga Cook Art national championship.
