North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, has strongly denied claims that he failed to declare his assets as required by law.

This follows a recent report listing him among government appointees who allegedly did not meet the asset declaration deadline set by President John Mahama.

The President had instructed all appointees to declare their assets by 31st March 2025, as part of efforts to ensure transparency in governance which some appointees failed to comply with.

Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, Mr Tia said the report was inaccurate.
“I want to make an appeal about the channel putting it out there that I have not declared my assets, which is completely false,” he said.

He explained that he had submitted his declaration ahead of the deadline. “I did declare my assets on the 20th of March and I have my slip,” he added.

Mr Tia expressed disappointment that his side of the story was not verified before publication.
“So the Fourth Estate lied about me not declaring my assets. And even if they did, they should have cross-checked from me… But nobody reached out to me. “I wrote to them telling them to withdraw it and they are still not doing it and my name is still popping up.”

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has extended the deadline for government appointees to declare their assets to Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
