North Dayi Farmers Day

The North Dayi District Assembly aims to invest in climate-smart technology to promote sustainable agriculture and empower small-scale framers.

The initiative which would include the training of farmers and the provision of farm inputs and seedlings is targeted at improving yields to enhance the livelihoods of beneficiaries.

The North Dayi District Chief Executive, Edmond Kudzo Atta announced this at a ceremony to
commemorate the 39th National Farmers Day in Anfoega Wademaxe.

“As a district, our goal is to empower small-scale farmers and promote sustainable agriculture through the provision of comprehensive climate-smart services, thereby, generating more revenue and enhancing livelihood sources for our farmers and communities”, he said.

He added that the assembly would ensure the district benefits from the government’s climate change programme which includes the construction of irrigation systems among others.

He further indicated that the district assembly has nursed 12,000 coconut seedlings which would be distributed to farmers for free. The initiative is funded by the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project.

Mr. Kudzo, however, lamented the lack of land as a major stumbling block in harnessing the agricultural potential of the district.

“Zoomlion requested about 300 acres of land to engage in rice farming. The National Youth Authority also requested 100 acres of land to support youth to go into agriculture. However, we are unable to get the land for the projects to take off”, he said.

He, therefore, appealed to the traditional authorities and residents to make available lands for the projects to commence to create jobs and wealth.

The North Dayi District Director of Agriculture, Nusianu Avedzida implored the youth to take Take advantage of government flagship programmes to become entrepreneurs.

Deserving farmers, an Agri worker, and a fisherman were awarded and celebrated for their distinctive contribution to the food basket of the district.

The Chief Executive Officer of Chrisfel Farms, Rev Dr Christian Regobeth Kofi Ahortor, was adjudged the District’s Best Farmer.

He called for the provision of logistics to enable farmers to add value to their produce to maximize profit.

Mr. Ahortor also encouraged the youth to take advantage of the arable lands around and invest their energy and resources into agriculture, a venture they would never regret.
