Guinean junta leader, Mamady Doumbouya, will be sworn in as president of the country’s transition towards civilian rule.

Doumbouya led a group of elite forces who overthrew the government of President Alpha Conde on September 5.

No West African leader is expected to be in Conakry for the investiture because Guinea is currently banned from the ECOWAS bloc as well as from the African Union.

He will serve as president for a yet-to-be-determined duration and shall be assisted by two vice-presidents.

The junta has in the past week undertaken talks with major stakeholders on building a roadmap towards elections.

Doumbouya met with among others, political actors, religious entities, the diplomatic and business community.

An 81-member body to serve as parliament for the transition will include political players, youth leaders, security forces, trade union and business leaders etc.

The Parliament will determine the length of the transition even though the junta was given six months to hold elections.

Members of the ousted government and members of the military junta will not be allowed to contest in the next elections.

The ousted president remains in detention despite repeated efforts by the regional political bloc, ECOWAS, to secure his release.
