The Ningo Traditional Council has dismissed claims that a supposed Igbo king from Nigeria has established a new kingdom within the Old Ningo area.

The council describing the reports as baseless and unauthorised.

In a letter addressed to the Minister for the Interior, the Council, led by its President and Paramount Chief, Nene Osragbo Djangmah XII, said no such authority has been granted to any individual to declare a kingdom on Ningo land.

“Our attention has been drawn to recent media publications about the alleged establishment of a Kingdom by a self-proclaimed King of Igbos in Old Ningo within the Ningo Paramountcy,” the Council stated, following an emergency meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The Traditional Council clarified that the Ningo Paramountcy remains solely under the leadership of HRM Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII, and “does not intend to have another ruler domiciled on our land.”

The Council emphasised that such developments were not only misleading but also disrespectful to the customs and governance structures of the Ningo people.

In a further rebuttal of the claims, the Council stated that none of the five clans that own land along the Tema-Aflao Road corridor in Old Ningo had sold or ceded any property to the alleged Igbo king or his representatives for the purpose of establishing a kingdom.

“The five (5) clans who own land along the Tema-Aflao Road in the general Old Ningo area have NOT sold any land to the said Igbo King to develop a Kingdom,” the statement stressed.

The Council described the situation as a matter of serious concern and called for calm, warning against actions that could sow discord or disrupt the peaceful coexistence between indigenous communities and settlers.

They reiterated Ningo’s long history of hospitality to people from different backgrounds but maintained that such gestures should not be exploited to undermine traditional authority or local governance.

The issue has since been escalated to the Minister of the Interior for urgent attention and investigation.
