nigeria views ghana as a competi

CEO of Highly Spiritual record label and renowned music producer, Kaywa, has expressed his disappointed about how Nigerians have taken over the highlife music genre which originated from Ghana.

Speaking to Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, Kaywa blamed this situation on the actions of some Ghanaians because he believes Ghanaians lack self-confidence as compared to Nigerians.

‘Nigerians are like charlie, this Ghana people they are something else, the same way we look at Nigerians and go like wow, they see us and go like wow. Just that for us, we don’t believe in our wow but they, they believe in their wow. So we don’t believe in ourselves but they, they believe in themselves,’ he stated.

‘Nigerians are crowning highlife kings, Ghana we don’t have one, yet highlife came from Ghana,’ he added.

According to Kaywa, Ghana formerly held a dominant position in the Nigerian music industry, but this did not stop Nigerian musicians from continuing to make music. Instead, they persisted until they shifted the narrative by promoting the “Ghana must go” agenda.

‘Ghana took over the Nigerian industry, and Nigerians were crying they were not getting jobs because when you as a Ghanaian and maybe I’m a Nigerian, we go and look for the same job, you the Ghanaian will get the job more than me because they believed Ghanaians were hardworking, Nigerians were not. So they said this narrative it’s not good for us. Let’s change it, but before we change it, Ghana must go,’ he explained.

Despite being a Ghanaian, the music producer demonstrated his admiration for Nigerians, who he said value what they do even when others are opposed to it.

Kaywa refuted assertions by some Ghanaians that local artistes weren’t writing good music and producing good music videos, saying there was a time when Nigerians copied Ghanaian movies and music videos.

He emphasised that Ghanaians have lost focus and that has accounted for the dominance of Nigerian music over that of Ghanaians.

In light of this, the music producer advised that Ghanaians must focus more on themselves.
