Nigerian Musicians Dominating the Global Music Scene: Insights from Oseikrom Sikani

In a recent interview on HB PULSE with Zeal the Great aired on HOMEBASE TELEVISION, Oseikrom Sikani delved into the disparities between Nigerian and Ghanaian artists in the music industry. Shedding light on this issue, Sikani emphasized how Nigerians seem to be surpassing Ghanaians in terms of success and recognition.

Sikani acknowledged that this discrepancy is not the fault of Ghanaian artists, attributing it instead to the influential presence of Nigerians in Ghana.

”It’s not Ghanaians fault because most of the big men and people here in Ghana are from Nigeria” he said

He highlighted that many prominent figures and industry players in Ghana hail from Nigeria, which has given Nigerians an advantageous position in terms of resources and connections.

One key observation made by Sikani was the Nigerians’ remarkable ability to skillfully incorporate Ghanaian dialect, specifically ‘Twi,’ into their songs. This deliberate effort has not only endeared Nigerian artists to the Ghanaian audience but also enabled them to tap into the vast market potential that Ghana offers.

Recognizing the need for change, Oseikrom Sikani urged Ghanaian musicians to invest more heavily in their craft, even if the immediate returns may not be substantial. He emphasized the importance of adopting a long-term perspective, emphasizing that consistent dedication and hard work will eventually yield greater rewards in the future.

To bridge the gap and reclaim their prominence, Ghanaian artists must focus on enhancing their packaging and presentation. By leveraging their unique cultural heritage, linguistic diversity, and creative talents, they can carve out a distinctive niche in the global music landscape.
